The exclusive line of Missoni for Target products was blogged as an extremely wanted item, yet very few are buying on eBay. It was remarkable to hear about how, when the new fall line hit stores, no one could have predicted the three-month stock would be sold out almost everywhere within hours of shopping. The webpage shut down and those lucky enough to have ordered something online were then furious when their orders were cancelled by the store or not fulfilled.
Blogs started posting about the exclusive line as being a myth, that there were no Missoni items to begin with. But there were and those items started showing up on eBay and auction sites for double what Target had been selling them for. But who was actually bidding on these items, paying more for the designer item? Very few. Hundreds of the same items are listed on eBay, some are being bid on, but mostly it appears to be a flop.
So with the lack of sales on eBay will Target possibly be flooded with a ton of Missoni products when people return the unsold merchandise? Will it come back into demand as this happens or will people want less as the phenomenon dies and the season ends? Perhaps with the up coming holiday season the demand will go up again for Missoni. Should that eBay seller hold on to the merchandise after the return date has expired in hopes of recovery during the holiday season or should the seller return the items and recover any loss while its still possible? What do you think?
Well, it turned out that those who didn't sell their items right away on eBay did return their products to the store. There did appear to be an abundance of Missoni items in the clearance section about a month after the phenomenon first occurred. Upon several visits it didn't appear as though the clearance items were flying off the shelves and the craze had ended. Although every so often I do notice someone wearing this fashion, it appears that like many fads, this one has faded.
